Mining’s old guard needs strong medicine
A new report details subpar investor returns in the mining industry over the last decade, particularly big cap diversified companies which have not adapted to new realities.
Six coal miner died after 100 tonnes of coal collapsed at a mine in northern Mexico, located in the State of Coahuila.
The accident occurred at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Mimosa Unit 7 Mine owned by Altos Hornos de Mexico, according to the Secretary of Public Security of the state, Jorge Luis Delgado Moran.
The rest of the mine’s personnel, 285 workers, were evacuated without incident.
The company said the coal collapse was due to a pocket of methane gas that instantaneously released. The mine’s ventilation system prevented the gas from exploding.
The rescued miner, Armando Robles Piña, was injured but he has been released from treatment.
