When a broad sample group was asked how familiar they are with the term “hydraulic facturing”, over 2/3 of the respondents didn’t know what surveyor was referring to.
A poll of nearly 2,400 people was carried out by The University of Texas at Austin. Out of a broad respresentative group of the US population, 28% of the respondents said they are not familiar with the term and 35% said they had never heard of it.
The response is surprising since hydraulic fracturing is upending the energy industry with some calling it a “game changer.”
Noted oil economist, Philip Verleger, says the US will become a low cost country for energy production because of entrepreneurs and innovation within the industry from hydraulic fracturing.
“It has given us this huge bounty,” says Verleger.
