Kaboom! Cooling towers come down

The cooling towers for the Richborough power station in the United Kingdom were demolished on Sunday producing some pretty spectacular video.

Older coal plants around the world are being taken offline as new environmental regulations take hold. In the U.S., the Environmental Protection Agency passed rules that will mothball roughly one-tenth of older coal-fired power plants.

The Richborough power station was a 342MW coal-fired station, using coal from Kent and other coalfields. It operated from 1962 to 1996.

When the cooling towers are cleared, a £750 million green energy park will take its place running wind and biomass plants.

The video was produced by DDS Demolition.
