SGS Minerals Services geochemical laboratory in Vancouver assessed to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025

SGS is pleased to announce that our geochemical laboratory in Vancouver, Canada has completed the on-site evaluation of the Quality Management System. This assessment measured conformance to the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard for the General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories.

Nine test methods were evaluated, covering 57 elements including fire assay with atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and gravimetric analysis for gold; silver by aqua regia digestion and strong acid digestion; multi-elemental packages by aqua regia digestion; strong acid and peroxide fusion by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS); and sulphur and carbon analysis.

The evaluation procedure was an overview of the quality system including the management and technical requirements covering documentation control, non-conformance requirements, proficiency testing, training competency, equipment monitoring, test method validation, traceability of measurements, quality of data and sample management.

This evaluation demonstrates SGS’ commitment to geochemical expertise and adds to the existing full scope of exploration, metallurgy, mineralogy and water treatment services that SGS offers to its clients on the west coast of North America. SGS also provides comprehensive trade services in Vancouver for hard rock minerals, potash, sulphur and coal. The Vancouver facility also functions as a gateway to other SGS services.
