The trip comes after Niger’s military government withdrew mining rights from Canadian and French companies to develop uranium deposits.
Platts news service is reporting that Kinder Morgan, a pipeline company, and Ambre Energy will submit proposals to build coal export facilities at Port St. Helens, Oregon.
According to Platts, Pacific Transloading, a subsidiary of Australia-based Ambre Energy, proposes to export 3.5 million tonnes of coal per annum from the Powder River Basin starting in 2013.
A proposal by Ambre and Arch Coal for a coal terminal in Longview, Washington was withdrawn after documents showed bigger plans than previously disclosed, says Platts. Another potential coal terminal in Cherry Point Washington faces opposition from environmental groups but is still seeking a permit.
