Industry icon steps up Stantec’s presence in B.C. mining sector

Stantec is enhancing its presence in the B.C. mining sector with the hiring of Tony Wachmann as Director of Mining, Metallurgy and Infrastructure.

Wachmann brings 36 years of experience to Stantec in infrastructure and facilities engineering for mining and mineral processing.

“The mining industry in B.C. continues to be a robust and exciting sector that is a key source of growth for Stantec,” says Michael Kennedy, Vice President and Regional Leader of British Columbia for Stantec. “Not only does an industry icon like Tony bring a long track record of success and a stellar reputation in the Canadian mining industry, but also the invaluable local expertise in B.C. that will be critical for Stantec‘s development in the region.”

Over his 36 year career, Wachmann has been involved in more than 80 prefeasibility and feasibility studies, trade-offs, technical and financial audits and project evaluations, as well as environmental assessment/permitting, detail design, procurement, logistics/execution, financial evaluations and project/construction management.

Previously, Wachmann was Vice President of Operations, Mining & Metallurgy at SNC Lavalin Inc. He was responsible for business development, client liaison, contract negotiations, and the direction of staff engaged on mining, industrial and infrastructure projects based out of Vancouver.

In his new role, Wachmann will remain based in Vancouver and work closely with Michael Kennedy, Vice President and Regional Leader for B.C., on the development of Stantec’s mining sector in B.C. and Northern Canada, as well as with Steve Rusk, Stantec’s Mining Sector Leader, on the development of the mining sector company wide.

“To have Tony join Stantec is an exciting step for Stantec, not only in B.C., but for our mining sector as a whole, because it gives us a base of expertise to aggressively pursue surface and infrastructure mining projects globally,” says Rusk.
