Mining’s old guard needs strong medicine
A new report details subpar investor returns in the mining industry over the last decade, particularly big cap diversified companies which have not adapted to new realities.
Over time all operating conveyor belts stretch requiring adjustment to restore optimal tension. Failure to do so not only compromises handling efficiency but can also result in unplanned downtime and maintenance and therefore higher operating costs. This was the exact problem at British Gypsum in Barrow, England. It had become virtually impossible for the engineering team to adjust the conventional tensioners that the OEM had supplied with the conveyor system.
