Alberta to introduce ‘modern’ coal policy, including ban on new open-pit projects
The new policy will not affect those qualified as "advanced coal projects" such as the controversial Grassy Mountain mine.
Canadian gold miner Northgate Minerals Corp expects production at its Young-Davidson mine in Northern Ontario to start in late first quarter of 2012.
The company, which has assets in Canada and Australia, expects the mine to produce 84,000-90,000 ounces of gold in 2012 and 134,000-140,000 ounces in 2013.
Northgate forecast the Young-Davidson to produce an average of 180,000 ounces of gold annually over an initial 15-year mine life.
