Mining pumps by BBA Pumps

In the world of mining, so called open mining is the most visible form of delving natural resources. Typically, open mining means that large excavations are made in order to expose the desired resources, e.g. coal. After the deposits have been exposed, they are quarried and transported into plants for further processing. The mines cover surfaces of multiple square miles and can be as deep as200 meters, creating a surreal landscape in and around the mine sites.

When digging into the earths crust at such depths, large quantities of groundwater need to be dealt with on a daily basis. BBA Pumps carries a full range of pumps geared towards the specialist needs one encounters in the mining market.

With a pressure range exceeding200 metersof head, made of hard-wearing materials such as GGG70 and offering sufficient solids handling capabilities, the BA-C range is fully geared to the mining market.

Recently,BBA PumpsPoland supplied a BA-C200H42 diesel driven pumpset to a browncoal mine that was facing serious water problems and flooding of the excavation. The high efficiency pump-end can provide flows up to 900 m3/h and reaches heads as high as 15 bars. Coupled to a12 literVolvo-Penta diesel engine, putting out more than 400 hp, and mounted in a sound-attenuating canopy, the BA-C200H41 proved to be the perfect pump for the job.

With a best efficiency point of 75 %, this pump perfectly fits in the BBA philosophy “Pumps for results”. Used on a duty point of 600 m3/h at115 m. and a suction head of  4 –5 m. (!), the pump asks for 250 kW.  “After emptying the pit, we will have made a substantial saving on energy costs”, the open mine’s manager confirmed.
