Shore Gold Inc. could be one step closer to opening Canada’s next diamond mine, according to a story published in the Journal of Commerce.
The newspaper says Shore Gold’s recently released feasibility study for the Star-Orion South Project, located near Prince Albert, Sask., shows that the dimaond deposit is large enough to support a mine:
The project consists of the Star Diamond Project and the Orion South Project, which includes the excavation of an open pit at the Star Kimberlite and potentially, a second open pit at the Orion South Kimberlite.
According to the company, the feasibility study said the Star-Orion South project has a net present value of US$2.1 billion and is economically able to support the construction and operation of a mine.
JOC says construction of the Star-Orion project is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2012, while full-scale ore production will start in early 2017.
