Runge Ltd. MD Tony Kinnane passes away

It is with great sadness that we advise that our former Managing Director, Mr. Tony Kinnane, passed away Saturday night at his home in Brisbane.

Tony joined Runge Limited in 1986 as Operations Manager and in 1991 was appointed Managing Director, a position he held for 20 years.

He oversaw the growth of Runge Limited through its continued international expansion in consulting, software and training, working at Runge Limited for a total of 24 years up until his retirement on 31 March 2011.

Professional highlights included Runge Limited’s listing on the Australian Securities Exchange on 27 May 2008, taking out top honours at the 2006 Premier of Queensland’s Smart Awards as the State’s “smartest company” and also winning the 2007 Premier of Queensland’s Export Award for Services.

Throughout his distinguished career Tony was so very proud of Runge Limited, his commitment and loyalty never failing, including post retirement where he continued to contribute advice and solutions on an almost daily basis.

The founder of Runge Limited and a current non-executive director, Dr Ian Runge, said “Tony and I have worked together for 35 years – first as mine planning engineers at a large mine in Central Queensland, then in a client/consultant relationship when Tony was Mine Manager at another large Central Queensland mine, and finally from 1986 when he joined Runge Limited – a time when the company had less than 30 staff and just two offices.  We worked as a team for more than 20 years until I stood down from the Chairmanship four years ago.  Although we had different working styles and challenged each other frequently I believe that this resulted in very good outcomes for the company, our employees and our shareholders.  The loss of Tony is a very sad day for myself and the whole Runge Limited global team.”

Tony had an impeccable name in the industry, was a driving force behind Runge Limited’s international expansion and had numerous connections and networks across countries, governments and industries.

He held managerial positions in various mines across Australia, a Diploma in Mine Engineering and a Diploma of Geology from RMIT, and was a Fellow of The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Tony’s wife Paula, family and friends.
