GIW has offered its ‘Slurry Course’ – the Transportation of Solids Using Centrifugal Pumps -annually for the past 31 years. The course is often full. Every year engineers recommend the course to their companies, and those companies send more engineers to the course. And every year, participants ask for more!
So this year, GIW gave the industry what it asked for. First, it added a second Slurry Course. The first was in March, the second runs September 15-19, 2008. Designed for university-educated engineers, the five-day course covers essential practical and economic considerations for slurry pumping with centrifugal pumps along with considerable attention to engineering theory. In addition, participants learn the latest findings on very coarse particle pumping and pipeline transport at high solids concentrations.
Furthermore, GIW has created a new course for engineers – Mineral Processing Using Centrifugal Pumps. The new training will include both instruction in engineering theory and practical content specific to the hard-rock mining industry. The course is scheduled for February 9-13, 2009, and will be delivered by industry experts from Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Sweden and the US.
Finally, GIW is broadening its training to include supervisors and personnel who work with slurry pumps. Maintenance of Centrifugal Slurry Pumps is a new course coming May 19-21, 2009. This practical course gets away from the high-level theory with hands-on instruction specifically designed for maintenance and operations personnel. The course will be taught by technical experts – not just from GIW, but from a variety of companies – who will teach attendees about maintenance of their equipment.
