Gold swings as traders await Fed’s decision on interest rates
Gold is up by more than 25% this year, with rate-cut optimism fueling recent gains.
G Mining Ventures (TSX: GMIN, OTCQX: GMINF) reported on Monday that a fatality occurred at its Oko West gold project in Guyana.
The fatality was related to a road incident, which occurred on October 13. Details regarding the cause of death are currently under investigation. The colleague was a contractor employed by Hopkinson Mining Security Services Inc., a partner of GMIN.
GMIN’s country leadership is on-site to cooperate with and assist the authorities fully in their investigations. The company said it is committed to a thorough and transparent investigation, that it will provide additional information as appropriate and that grief counsellors will be made available to those in need of support.
Safety is a top priority at GMIN, the company said, adding that it is committed to understanding the circumstances surrounding this incident to enhance its safety protocols and ensure the well-being of all employees and contractors.
As the incident occurred in an isolated area of the site, it did not impact the broader operations, and the site remains open.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic accident. Our sincere condolences and support are with our colleague’s family, friends, and coworkers during this difficult time,” GMIN CEO Louis-Pierre Gignac said in a statement.
