Janice Dory didn’t always picture herself in a mining career, but after two years working as a Haul Truck driver, she’s found her place in an industry that she describes as both rewarding and exciting. Known to joke about her role as a “Water Transport and Distribution Engineer”—a playful way of describing her work as a Water Truck driver—Janice brings a passion for the job that extends beyond the machinery she operates.

A self-professed rockhound, or amateur rock collector, Janice enjoys the unique experience of uncovering different types of rock in the mining process. “I’m passionate about every aspect of mining. For me, it’s exciting to see the variety of rocks we uncover,” she says. But it’s not just the work itself that she enjoys; Janice values the balance her job allows between her professional and personal life. Her schedule at the mine gives her plenty of time to spend outdoors with her family, enjoying activities like camping, fishing, skiing, and dirt biking.

One thing she wishes more people knew is that a career in mining doesn’t always require a college degree, yet it can be incredibly fulfilling. “The compensation and benefits, like insurance and retirement plans, are excellent. The work is enjoyable, even on long or demanding days,” she explains.

Janice’s journey into mining started without prior experience, but with on-the-job training at Ledcor, she quickly gained the skills necessary to operate a range of heavy equipment, from the 777 Haul Truck to Water Trucks and Wiggle Wagons. Recently, she’s added the D9 Dozer to her skillset, and she’s eager to keep learning. “I want to know how to operate every piece of equipment we use. It’s not just a job for me anymore—it’s become a way of life,” Janice adds.

One of the things Janice values most about her time in mining is the focus on safety, both in the workplace and at home. The training and company values she’s been exposed to at Ledcor have made safety an essential part of how she approaches her work and everyday life.

Her story reflects the opportunities for growth and development available within the mining industry. Like many others, Janice found a career path at Ledcor that provides stability, personal satisfaction, and a future full of potential.
