The Fancy Color Research Foundation reported this week that prices of fancy color diamonds increased by 0.3% during Q1 2021 with blues and pinks leading the way after rising by 0.5% and 0.4% respectively.
“In Q1 2021, fancy intense and fancy vivid segments both presented an increase of 0.4% in comparison to a slight decrease of 0.2% in the fancy segment,” the organization said in a media statement.
“The noticeable decrease this past quarter was in the fancy 2-carat category (-1.1%). Conversely, the fancy intense 2-carat category presented the highest climb of 2.6% in Q1 2021, followed by the fancy intense 3-carat segment increasing by 1.9%.”
The prices reported by the FCRF are based on its own Fancy Color Diamond Index, which is built on tracked data for yellow, pink, and blue fancy color diamonds’ performance in major global trading centers such as Hong Kong, New York, Geneva and Tel Aviv.
According to the Index, the 0.4% growth in pink diamond prices was led by an increase of 1.5% and 1.4% in 2 and 3 carats in all saturations.
Blue diamonds, on the other hand, presented a price rise of 0.5%, with 1.5 carats in all blue saturations rising by 1.5% and fancy vivid blue 1.5 carats rising by 1.9%. Prices of fancy blue 3 carats, however, decreased by 1.4%.
Finally, fancy vivid yellow 3 and 10 carats showed a price increase of 1.1% and 1.2% respectively. Yet, when combining all categories, yellow diamonds demonstrated a price decrease of -0.2%, with the fancy yellow 5 carats segment dropping by 2.4%.
