New book ‘102 Things to Do with a Hole in the Ground‘ spotlights global reclamation projects
Stories of reinvented coal mining regions, regenerated communities and rebuilt ecosystems are told in a new book published this month.
Chile’s mining agency, Sernageomin, announced that two miners are trapped in the La Nuestra mine, located near the town of Tierra Amarilla in the north-central Atacama region.
Sernageomin personnel, together with local police and the fire department are already carrying out the rescue operation.
The regional Deputy Prosecutor, Sebastián Coya, is also at the site, gathering information on the accident.
The agency reported that the miners are doing well and that rescuers have been able to communicate with them.
“We have started the work paying special attention to the safety of the rescue teams. If anything comes up, we will re-evaluate our strategy,” Sernageomin said in a social media statement.
