Mining’s old guard needs strong medicine
A new report details subpar investor returns in the mining industry over the last decade, particularly big cap diversified companies which have not adapted to new realities.
Saskatoon-based Omineca Mining and Metals is preparing to dewater the former Wingdam gold mine 45 km east of Quesnel at Barkerville. Preparations include grouting off the connection between the Wingdam and historic Sanderson mine. This will reduce water flow and speed dewatering to three or four weeks, rather than months.
When dewatering is compete, Omineca will prepare the first underground area for ground freezing and bulk sampling will begin.
The Wingdam project is a joint venture of Omineca, KR Investments and HCC Mining and Demolition. HCC will remove the bulk sample.

Tailing Dams should not be built where their collapse would destroy towns. Less water should be used more recycling?
