23,000 signatures opposing fracking in northern BC

An aboriginal group says it has 23,000 signatures on its online petition calling for a moratorium on issuing water licenses to the shale gas industry in northern BC.

The petition on Change.org was organized by the Fort Nelson First Nation in northeastern British Columbia.

“Currently there are 20 licenses under review,” writes the group in its press release.

“With one license already approved and under legal appeal, Encana is the next in line and has requested the right to draw three billion litres of water per year from the Fort Nelson River on the Fort Nelson First Nation land.”
