Glencore Technology is pleased to announce the latest sale of Jameson Cell technology for the Collahuasi Copper Mine in northern Chile.
Owned by Glencore, Anglo American and a consortium of Japanese companies, the large copper mine has purchased two B6500/24 Jameson Cells for installation in their copper molybdenum flotation circuit. This will be the first application of Jameson Cells treating base metals in Chile.
Glencore Technology Jameson Cell Manager Virginia Lawson said the Jameson Cells will be producing final grade copper/moly concentrate in the cleaning circuit.
“The cells will treat the tails from the flotation cleaner column circuit, recovering copper and molybdenum not recovered from the columns. It is a good solution to be able to produce final grade concentrate from this stream,” she said.
“Our experience with Jameson Cells operating in copper moly operations is they have big advantages over other technologies.
“The high shear environment in the downcomer encourages the molybdenum to attach to the fine bubbles, while the concentrate wash water system in the cell enables the final concentrate grade to be achieved in one pass.”
Glencore Technology General Manager Paul Telford said the project’s achievements were exemplary of the benefits which can be gained from long-term partnerships, having worked with Collahuasi for over 15 years.
“We work with our clients to ensure our technology delivers the best solution for their operation. Our approach focuses on whole of project-cycle support, including through the installation phase, commissioning and aftermarket service,” he said.
Jameson Cells have recently been installed and commissioned in the Cadia copper/gold operations, along with recent sales to Australian zinc and copper operations in cleaner scalping duties.
