Tesla Motors founder Elon Musk is well known for his shocking inventions and for challenging traditional technology. He recently made headlines after announcing his idea for a high-speed inter-city transportation system, the Hyperloop.
The Hyperloop has drawn lots of criticism and mockery, with one Forbes contributor calling it “crazy.”
Now the rocket-launching innovator has introduced yet another game-changer: An iron-man inspired software that allows engineers to visualize their ideas in 3D, using not a computer mouse but their hands.
Remember that scene in Iron Man when Robert Downey Jr. designs a suit using his hands? Well, it’s like that – almost. There’s a reason why Musk was the inspiration for the film’s main character, Tony Stark.
In a video published by Musk’s SpaceX, the rocket man explains and shows his idea for the new software.
He says we interact with computers in an “unnatural, 2D way” that is not efficient when trying to create real-life designs.
Immersive virtual reality allows you to manipulate and design virtual objects with your hands and then send them to a 3D printer.

Treble
The Tony Stark character has been around longer than Elon Musk. If there was inspiration, it was the other way around. Elon would also need a lot more snappy patter.
